- The
Rocketman Has Best Finish of the Year in Bark River
Hemlock,
MI - (July 19, 2009) Dan “The Rocketman” Baudoux continues
his hard charging driving style as his results continue to move the #7
Mole Lake Casino Miller Lite BP BFGoodrich Ford F-150 up in the finishing
order. In Round 7, Baudoux had his best finish of the year, sixth place,
in the fifteen PRO-2WD truck field. The reconfigured Bark River track
offered several new technical challenges that perfectly suited The
Rocketman’s driving style.
After two practice session, the Mole Lake Casino crew had the
Baudoux-built chassis, setup for the new technical sections, as well as
the notoriously fast campground loop.
The Saturday Round 7 PRO-2WD race had Dan starting in the fifth row, in
the tenth position. The rolling double wide USAC-style rolling start was
new for the Bark River course, and how well it works on this track was a
definite unknown. When the green flag dropped, the field immediately
spread out and then quickly contracted within fifty yards, as the fifteen
trucks headed for the first turn. Somehow Dan blasted through the corner
without too much contact and quickly picked up two positions. After the
mandatory yellow, Dan continued his charge, moving up to fifth place with
only one lap to go. With the top six trucks running to close together,
Dan’s vision is limited as the dry track conditions really make it
difficult to see. Several times, Dan had to back off the throttle due to
the limited visibility, and on the final lap it cost the Michigan native a
spot in the Top-5, officially finishing in sixth.
“Well I’ll take this finish, we finally made it to the end without someone
taking us out,” noted Dan Baudoux. “The dust was terrible today; hopefully
the track crew will get more water in the ground for tomorrow’s race. We
will use this as a starting point to build on
for the rest of the year.”
Sunday’s
Round 8 for the #7 Mole Lake Casino Miller Lite BP BFGoodrich Ford F-150
was over just as the #7 Ford headed into the first turn. The Rocketman
planned on using the berm on the outside the first turn to stay clear of
the pile up on the inside, when suddenly he was slammed into the outside
wall destroying the left front corner of the truck, ending the weekend.
Afterward Dan Baudoux regained his composure, and talked about the
incident. “I took the outside line because everybody seemed to get waded
up on the inside of the turn. There was nobody immediately in front me and
it was looking pretty good, then out of nowhere, somebody just comes out
of the pile and just slams me into the wall. There was nothing I could do.
I’m
just sick about what happened. I think they should go back to the land
rush start.”
